Hi, I am a 24 year old girl. I have had type 1 diabetes for 20 years. I was told I was geting complications 2 years ago. Diabetic Retinopathy. But yesterday I went ofr my yearly check up at the opthalmic surgeon he said it has progresed alot and that I will need to have laser surgery in less than 2 weeks.I am terified of going blind, I hav looked after myself as best I could have, and have just started a five year double university degree. I feel like whats the point..DOES THE LASER HURT? and how can I cope with this when I start to loose my vision. I'm not sure I can live in a world of darkness.I know that there are so many people out there alot worse off than me but that thought really is not helping me at the moment.I'm really so affraid, please give me some advise?
