The ONLY way to know if you have diabetes is to have at least one blood test. A glucose tolerance test is the definitive method. With that test, there is no guesswork. Either you are normal, prediabetic, or diabetic. No ifs, ands, or buts. In the American system, a fasting blood sugar of 127 or more on two different occasions, but not in the same week means you are diagnosed with diabetes. An a1c over 7.0 (some say 6.0 or higher) means you are diabetic. A glucose tolerance test results of greater than 199 at the 2 hour check means you are diabetic. |
